Who doesn’t like a clean and shiny sink faucet? But it’s not always possible to find a shiny faucet whenever you would go to the sink. calcium deposits become a common problem if you are having hard water at home. Don’t lose hope! Here is your savior that could help you to clean the sink faucet with less effort and in a short time.
Perform routine cleaning
- You could a mixture of dish soap and warm water. use a mild detergent to avoid any damage to your faucet surface. Take a small bowl and pour 2 cups of warm water and add 1-2 tablespoons of liquid dish wash. Create suds by mixing the ingredients using a kitchen utensil.
- Soak a sponge or rag in the mixture and scrub your sink faucet using it. scrub the handle, neck and base in a circular motion over the surface gently.
- You could use an old toothbrush to rub the grimy areas. Add some baking soda and little water in the bristles of the brush to create a paste. Scrub the area in back and forth motion till you find all the grimes are gone.
- Dental floss may work best for cleaning small cracks. You have to cut 12’’ of floss and place it among the spaces or cracks in your faucet. move the string in up and down motion like you do with your teeth.
- Take a clean cloth and damp it in water. move the dampen cloth across the surface to remove the gunk, grime and soap mixture from the faucet. Rinse continuously till your faucet becomes clean and dirt-free.
- Dry the faucet surface using a dry microfiber cloth. Continue the process till you find a dry and shiny faucet.
How to remove calcium buildup?
- First of all, you would need to wear gloves that could protect your hand from irritants and chemicals in calcium removers. Ensure that your rubber gloves are dirt-free before wearing them. it is better to use such gloves that would cover your forearm because there is a possibility of splashes.
- Take a container and make a mixture using equal amounts of water and calcium remover. If you find that there is less calcium buildup in your tap, you could use white vinegar. Though it takes much time but it is safe to use with your bare hand and also for the faucet. vinegar or calcium removers are not safe for nickel or iron faucets. Because this could remove the faucet’s finish as well as the gunk.
- Take a plastic bag and pour the remover mixture in it. You should use a sandwich bag and if you are getting confused about how to pour it in the bag, use a funnel and do the work carefully.
- Now it’s time to fasten the bag to your faucet. You have to hold it at an angle and glide the open end over your faucet. Dip the tap into the solution and fasten it using a rubber band. Let it soak for about 1-2 hours.
- Undo the band after 1-2 hours and remove the bag slowly. The calcium buildups would get loose after this step.
- Use a toothbrush to scrub the released buildup and move it in back and forth motion until you clear the buildup completely.
- Dry your faucet using a microfiber cloth like the previous method.
Cleaning the faucet plating
- Wet faucet would dilute the white vinegar; so, you should dry it using a dry towel. Ensure that you have removed the water completely.
- Pour white vinegar in a bowl and soak a cloth or scrubber in it. you shouldn’t wring any excess out.
- Drape the soaked cloth on the dirty area and press down to ensure that it has in contact with the faucet’s surface completely. Let the cloth rest in place for about one hour. Pour the excess vinegar in the calcium affected area to get a good result.
- Scrub the area using a rag but you shouldn’t do it too hard as it could cause scratch on your faucet. calcium deposits would come off easily.
- If the deposits won’t come off at once, repeat the step again till you get rid of all the deposits.
- Finally, use a microfiber cloth to dry the surface. Completely dry the faucet and get a new-looking shiny faucet.
